Pruning

My petunias are growing crazy. Today I gave it a “haircut”, aka pruning. Instead of cutting the stems off from the front, I cut a few stems back from the back so the blooms on the front is still there. This will encourage the plant to be more bushy. If your plants are too leggy, cut the first few nodes of a stem back to encourage it to bush out.

I just did the same thing to my upstairs neighbor’s geranium. She had let it get so leggy and never dead headed it, so I did all the hard work for her. I’m hoping that by the time she gets back from vacation, it will start to fill in. What do you think? Will she notice?

That’s very nice of you to do that for your neighbor. You might already know about this but if you put some bloom fertilizer it might bounce right back when your neighbor comes back from vacation. Even if they noticed I’m sure your neighbor will appreciate what you did for them.

Louise–That’s a good idea. My neighbor is a teacher, and she spends most of the summer in about 300 miles away, visiting her family. With the help of fertilizer, I bet I could definitely get her geranium to be covered in flowers.
