Beetle juice
I've been looking for ways to kill japanese beetle organically. Here's a blog post I found about organic pest control. I don't like bugs and they scare me, so there's no way I'm going to squish them with my fingers. Basically this is just dish soap and water. They die quickly and the scent they give off is suppose to deter other beetles from coming. It doesn't seem to be working for me though. Another blogger from Life on the Balcony forward me this article Giving Summer Pests the Brush Off. Unfortunately the beetle trap won't work for me because I'm suppose to put this beetle trap far away from my plants. Since I live in a condo, I'm not supposed to put anything in the common area. So I'm going to get the Espoma that is suppose to work for Japanese beetle. Wish me luck on this battle.
You !@#$%!#! beetle!!!!!!

Louise–Bummer that the beetle trap won’t work in your situation. I use the Espoma spray to control aphids and it works pretty well killing them. What I like is that Espoma is totally safe for edibles. You can spray it on the same day you harvest and your fruits/herbs/vegetables are safe to eat. I’m not sure where you are, but in my neck of the woods, you can get the Espoma spray at Longs Drugs and Armstrong Nurseries, among others.

Why are you trapping beetles anyway? I can see doing that to the red ones that eat up the lilies, but beetles usually scurry under the leaves and are good organic matter devourers, like worms. They perform an important function in the cycle of regeneration. I recommend a good insect book so you can learn to like insects for their place in our world. I wouldn’t use any insect sprays around my plants but suggest hand picking if they’re on your veg.

Hi Anna, thank you for visiting my site and for your comment. I really do not like trapping beetles. They were particularly invasive that year and they ate up all my vegetables. I had tried picked them off the vegetables but they were coming in groups and I had a hard time keeping up. Last year was much better though. I understand insects have their place in the world and they are beneficial to the garden, so I try to leave them alone as much as possible.
