Bye Bye JB

I'm happy to report that my battle with the japanese beetles have come to an end. I don't know if it's the organic pest control spray I used or it's the end of their life cycle. But I'm so glad they're not around my garden anymore. After doing some research I've come to the solution that they come in mid-June and only hang around for approximately 3 weeks. So all those flicking, drowning and spraying might not be necessary and I should've just left them alone. Since I don't have a big garden, their damage was quite obvious. I hope I don't need to deal with them anymore this season.

This is the organic pest control spray I used:

Purple Leaf Oxalis

Oxalis also known as Shamrock is a wonderful plant for shade gardening.  It is very low maintenance and doesn't require a lot of watering.  You can neglect it for a week and it will still put on a show.  I love the pink flowers over dark purple leaves.  This is a tough plant and it doesn't stop blooming.  Just make sure it's in the shade.    This is a keeper, I just hope it will survive the zone 6 winter, or maybe bring it indoors during winter.

The leaves of this plant close up at night and it opens up at dawn:

Night-blooming cereus

I found out the name of this mystery plant, it's called Night-blooming cereus. It was blooming on Saturday night. The duration of the bloom only last a few hours and it dies, and it only bloom once during the season. So I made sure I was around to watch it. It wasn't just one bloom, there were four of them!

Here a time elapsed video I found on YouTube:
