Here we go, it’s September

I can't believe it's already September. I live in zone 6, so our planting season is really short. Over here the weather is beginning to cool down and a bit Fall like temperature. Although I really enjoy this kind of weather, I'm going to miss all the gardening work!

Just a reminder, September is the month to prepare for your garden next year. Here are some of the highlights of what you might want to do:

  • Roses - "If a friend has a rose you admire, you might try taking a few hardwood rose cuttings."
  • Fuschias and Impatients - you can take cuttings now, this is the perfect weather to grow them.
  • Peonies - perfect weather to plant so they can be settled before frost.
  • Winter pansies and violas - plant bulbs early Sept in containers, they will surprise you in spring with beautiful blooms.
  • Bring cold sensitive plants indoors.
  • Last but not least... deadhead, pull out all the weeds, and remove all the spent annuals.  This will save you lots of time next year.

The above were taken from the article, September good for gardening by Anne Marrison.

  1. I’ve never been able to have any luck with fuchsia cuttings. Have you? If so, what’s your trick?
