Second batch of blooms from the night blooming cereus

As I write this I'm sitting on the couch enjoying the wonderful heavenly smell of my Night Blooming Cereus. It is blooming on the deck right now, what makes it special is the blooming duration only lasts a few hours. I opened the doors to the deck and just let the wonderful smell flow into the house. This plant started with some cuttings from my Uncle in CA and it has since grown triple the size. It's doing especially well this year, this is the second batch of blooms. According to the ancient chinese people, the blooms of this plant will bring good luck to the house. I blogged about the first batch of blooms in July.

Here's the same plant approximately 3 years ago:

Here it is today:

  1. This post brought back such sweet-scented memories for me as there is, or at least there was, an entire hillside covered with night-blooming cereus where I used to live in Hawaii. In the early mornings when I drove in to work, I could smell their perfume in the air and occasionally caught a glimpse of one or two that was still open.

I’ll be making a visit back home soon so I’ll check to see if they are still there!

  2. wow, an entire hillside covered with night-blooming cereus!! Where in Hawaii?
