Night blooming cereus frostbite
This is my beloved night-blooming cereus. It's currently in a bad shape because I left it in the cold too long. I think I moved it indoors at the end of October and the sudden drop in temperature caused most of the leaves to turn brown. Also the rainy weather in spring didn't help much and it didn't have a good start. It didn't have the perfect conditions to bloom like last year. Last year I had 7 beautiful blooms in one night and every time it booms it's an event. The blooms usually last for one night and the the flowers give off this heavenly scent that fills the whole deck. Check out the time elapsed video here, it really does open before your eyes, it's an amazing plant, don't let its look fool you!

After some serious deadheading, it doesn't look too bad! Please don't die on me!
Some cuttings for my colleague who happens to love gardening.

Holiday Train Show
Today I attended the Blogger VIP tour of the New York Botanical Garden Train Show. This was actually my second time visiting the train show but I had a different experience compare to last year. Since the tour was during the non-peak hours hours 2pm to 4pm, there weren't a lot of people and I was able to take my time to enjoy the artists' beautiful work.
NYBG has been doing the train show for the past fifteen years and it gets better and better each year. This show is all about miniature replicas of famous New York architecture buildings. Everything is made by dried plant materials--orange slices, cinnamon sticks, pods, pine cones, twigs, bark, and berries! It takes a team of 20 for about 10 days to create the whole display. It is definitely a must-do if you're visiting New York City during the holidays.

Can someone remind what's the name of the stick-like plant (The ones in between the angels in the picture)? I think it has a japanese name but I don't remember what it's called.
- Thanks to Marc... the plant is called Syngonanthus chrysanthus ‘Mikado’ (Eriocaulaceae )- Pipewort Family

Figures are made out of pistachio shells, honeysuckle vines, and wheat grain. Hair is made of tree lichen, yarrow, and dusty miller.

Busy with Farmville
I've been MIA because it's been busy farming over at Farmville! In Facebook there's an online game called Farmville and it's a lot of fun! You connect with your friends/neighbors and do all sorts of virtual vegetable farming. You get to farm with your friends and exchange crops as gifts, build a farmhouse and have farm animals. I'm currently at level 24 and saving money to buy a log cabin (something I've always wanted in real life)!
Check out my farm animals:

Not much is happening in my container garden; the temperature has been too cold and windy for me to enjoy gardening. Time to clean up the garden!
